A BODY TO DIE arrives at Stonewall Inn
Joi Lansing may have been the last of Hollywood’s blonde bombshells, but she was also lost due to her autocratic, sexist, even deadly control system. With Joi Lansing: A Body to Die For, author Alexis Hunter, herself a victim of “indentured bondage” in the studio and wife of Lansing during the starlet’s last years, offers the revealer now available in a new frank edition for our #MeToo years. The book – and the upcoming mini-series – will be celebrated on October 18, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, the birthplace of the gay liberation movement. The event will feature a read by Hunter and a panel discussion featuring her with miniseries producer Vincent DeSalvo and screenwriter Joe Doherty. Cabaret artists will also present songs adapted to the subject and the time.
Hunter, a decades-long quiet activist for women’s rights and the LGBTQ community, has been forced – like far too many people – to live a hidden existence during her years with the famous sex symbol. âI had to pass myself off as his little sister,â Hunter explained, âand I was given the name Rachel Lansingâ to explain their life together. It is rare that such romance can exist in the alluring but destructive climate of Hollywood. Indeed, the couple forged a lasting relationship abruptly interrupted by the cancer Joi developed after years of breast and butt enhancement injections by the for-profit industry (#BeverlyKills). Thus, the fight against breast cancer occupies a prominent place in history, especially in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Told with visceral emotion, A Body to Die For focuses on the heart of this relationship and the turbulent period of 1968-71. Joi Lansing was the tragic by-product of a chauvinistic enterprise within an enraged homophobic society. As Hunter states, “Joi died for her beauty.”
The 2021 edition of Joi Lansing: A Body to Die For by Alexis Hunter will be available on October 18, 2021 during the discussion and celebration of the upcoming book and miniseries: Stonewall Inn 53 Christopher St, Second Floor , New York NY 10014.
