Black Canary solo film is coming to the DC Cinematic Universe
Dinah Lance is in the spotlight as a Black Canary movie is on the way!
Deadline reports Lovecraft Country Writer and showrunner Misha Green is creating Black Canary movie for HBO Max. Green and Jurnee Smollett pitched the idea of further exploring the character and world of Black Canary when pressuring for Lovecraft Country, which was canceled after one season.
Smollett will reprise her role as superhero Dinah Lance aka Black Canary which was fantastically featured in Cathy Yan’s 2020 DC movie Birds of prey. In the film, Lance is introduced as a cabaret singer and personal driver for big bad Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor). Fighting alongside Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the Huntress Helena Bertinelli (Mary Elizabeth Winston), she reveals her metahuman power with supersonic screams.
Kroll & Co. Entertainment by Sue Kroll, who produced Birds of prey, will produce the film. There aren’t any details on what role Green will play in the project, but regardless, she probably won’t be getting there any time soon. Green is very busy with upcoming projects as a writer / producer / director as she is involved in Jennifer Lopez’s new thriller The mother, and also attached to direct Tomb raider 2. Smollett has her own plans as she will star in the Netflix movie Escape Spiderhead and the movie Bad Robot Lou.
Smollett is overflowing with enthusiasm for the film, and things pretty much confirmed were in the works on social media.
HBO Max is developing several DC superhero movies, including Bat girl with Leslie Grace and Blue beetle, with Xolo Maridueña, and a Black Superman series with producer Michael B. Jordan. Although this is not a movie, The Green Lantern Company The series is also in development at HBO Max.
