DK’s One Stop Center to Get More Installs | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: Sakhi-One Stop center in Dakshina Kannada which provided assistance under one roof to women affected by violence in the Lady Goschen Government Hospital since January 26, 2019, will soon be upgraded with more facilities.
The One Stop Center was set up by the Department of Women and Child Development and Lady Goschen Hospital decided to strengthen it by providing more infrastructure. The center handles an average of 20 cases per month, of which child abuse cases top the list, followed by domestic violence cases. The model one-stop center is expected to start operating from the hospital’s Maternity and Child Health (MCH) building. The civil works of the building are almost complete.
Priya KC, the center’s administrator, told TOI: “According to government guidelines, we have one counsellor, two social workers, two legal advisers and one assistant. The position of security officer will be filled next month. The premises are set up at the price of Rs 48 lakh and we will have separate rooms for board, consultation, office, lounge and kitchen. A five-bed establishment will also serve as a temporary shelter for women who have to stay for less than 15 days. These days, people’s awareness is improving and we are getting calls from parents asking for help for their daughters. »
Dr Durgaprasad MR, Medical Superintendent at Lady Goschen Government Hospital, said: “Among the various facilities planned, we are planning a video conferencing room to help survivors attend court proceedings virtually, a health education room for a capacity of 30 people, a VIP lounge, a swab collection room and rooms for specialists visiting the center. All development work is undertaken through the suggestions of the Coordinating Committee composed of officials from the district administration, health department, women and child development department, police and doctors from KMC.
