MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Drought conditions in Minnesota have the Natural Resources Department and others concerned about the July 4 fireworks in the backyard.
About 11% of the state experiences severe drought conditions, with 82% moderate drought and the rest abnormally dry conditions, according to the National Integrated Drought Information System.
Severe drought can be seen in several counties along the southern Minnesota border and in the northwestern region of the state. The DNR says the dry conditions have already resulted in more forest fires than usual.
Since March, more than 1,400 fires have charred nearly 55 square miles across the state.
