Hilarious viral warthog video shows Pumbaa isn’t that likeable IRL

Watching a Disney movie, it’s easy to believe that wild animals are always friendly and approachable. Birds want to perch on your finger, mice love to do chores and warthogs, like Pumbaa’s The Lion King, are carefree creatures. Unfortunately, this is obviously not always the case.

A man learned this lesson the hard way when he encountered a warthog in real life.

He documented the encounter and provided role play as the warthog meandered across the stage and gracefully ascended a few steps.

“I wonder if we can stroke it,” the man asked.

Moments later, the animal let out a cry and carried it to the ground. He could be heard calling for help when the video abruptly cut off. Hopefully help was around the corner and everyone involved ended the day safe and sound.

The video, which is genuinely hilarious, has since gone viral on Twitter, with “Pumba” trending on social media. Check out some tweets about it below.

Social media users instantly drew comparisons between the onscreen warthog and Pumbaa from the Disney classic. However, they misspelled the name of the beloved character as Pumba. Some users reported the error, but all the attention led to the “Pumba” trend.

For those in need of a Disney encore, Pumbaa and his meerkat friend Timon saved Simba in the 1994 film. They introduced the young lion to their carefree mentality with the song “Hakuna Matata”, welcomed him into their group and haven’t been short of comedic gold (and larvae!) in the process.

Seth Rogen voiced the fun-loving warthog in the 2019 live-action remake, which starred Donald Glover and Beyonce.

It should be noted that this is not the only recent encounter of feral pigs that has made headlines. ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ icon Shakira has gone viral after detailing an encounter with a wild boar in a Barcelona park.

She escaped unscathed. However, his bag and contents were reportedly ransacked. BBC noted that boars have been a growing problem as the species has become more common across Europe.

The wild boar is in a way a cousin of the warthog. Now we clearly know that both must be approached with the utmost caution.
