Lok Mela opens today


Islamabad: National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage – The annual Lok Virsa folk festival titled “Lok Mela 2021” will open today (Monday).

According to the official announcement, the annual Lok Virsa mega event will be held at the Lok Virsa Complex, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian, Islamabad.

The inaugural ceremony of the 7-day event will take place on November 1 and is expected to be honored by Federal Minister of Education and Vocational Training Shafqat Mahmood.

The main features will include provincial cultural pavilions from all provinces, GB, AJK including an international pavilion, artisans at work, folk songs and dance performances, exotic craft bazaar, cultural evenings, performances folklore, food courts and many other activities.

In keeping with tradition, the festival will officially open with a “chadarposhi / dastarbandi” ceremony, which is a way of proclaiming Lok Virsa’s commitment to the high stature that artisans and folk artists have in the mainstream culture.

The departments of culture of all provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and the diplomatic community were urged to set up pavilions showcasing their indigenous folk culture, artisans, folk artists and traditional cuisine as nodes. of the foundation grid of the festival.

Special attractions featuring folk singers, folk artists and other entertaining shows will be held throughout the festival.

An exhibition of traditional folk dances from all over Pakistan will be held at regular intervals in the open-air theater.

Folk artists and rural musicians are invited from all over the country to participate in the festival.

An exotic craft bazaar with around twenty tastefully decorated pavilions offering a variety of souvenir trinkets, antiques, handicrafts, precious stones and jewelry and cultural material will also be set up.

Each province, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir will host their cultural evening during Lok Mela in which prominent folk artists and folk performers from the respective province / region will perform live in a concert.

Mouth-watering traditional Pakistani cuisines will be prepared at the festival venue.

The festival will conclude with a colorful awards ceremony scheduled to take place on the last day of November 7, during which the awards will be distributed to the most talented and deserving artisans on the recommendations.
