Parent TV group is angry that Disney+ is adding the Netflix Marvel series to its platform – GeekTyrant
Disney has always been a brand for families. From movies to television, fans can always expect a certain rating and quality from their products. Now, with the expanded brands that Disney owns, their titles and properties have diversified, with some of them venturing into more adult-only content like Marvel titles. While most of us fans are thrilled with the Netflix Marvel series like daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisherand The defenders heading to Disney+, there’s a bunch of people who aren’t so happy.
This week, Parents Television and Media Council President Tim Winter took to the internet to post a statement from members of the organization expressing their disgust at the streamer’s new content, saying:
“For more than 98 years, The Walt Disney Company has been synonymous with the words Family Friendly, and I can think of no other company in American history that has been built more squarely on the backs – and the wallets – of parents and The company’s eponymous platform, Disney Plus, has logically marketed itself as a family-friendly streaming service, and parents have trusted Disney to deliver just that.
“It seems extremely ‘off-brand’ for Disney Plus to add TV-MA and R-rated programming to this platform, ostensibly to increase subscription revenue. So what comes next, adding live strip performances at Fantasyland at Disney World?”
Well, that quickly escalated. Disney+ realized that this content was more mature than what they had made available in the past, so they created updated parental controls to coincide with the release which will continue to make family content available, with these new series out of reach of children. It’s an excellent compromise. I can’t imagine my biggest worry in life is watching shows that streaming services add to their roster and then writing weird complaints about it. I wonder if this guy also asked for a ban on dancing in his hometown. It sounds like a good time.
For anyone excited about this addition, each season of daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, iron fist, The Punisher, The defendersand Agents of SHIELD will be available to watch on Disney+ on March 16.
