Arté Boréal is proud to announce the New York debut of Serafin LaRiviere “Take On Me” at Don’t Tell Mama, on Saturday October 16 at 7pm. One show!

“One of the country’s most distinctive voices, an emotional, tremolo-laden viola that borders on gender identity.” – Stuart Broomer of Toronto Life

Serafin brings a collection of originals and covers to the stage of the legendary Cabaret. Accompanied by the piano, musical director Michael McAssey, bass and saxophone, the one-hour musical journey will be a lyrical stroll of different emotions.

With a 5-octave vocal range that spans the gamut from tenderness to storm, Serafin LaRiviere has cultivated a multi-genre audience that embraces jazz, torch, adult-contemporary and even classical music. A staple of the Canadian jazz scene, the artist has appeared in the National Post, the Vancouver Province and on Jazz FM. Serafin’s first two albums made it to the top ten on Canadian university radio, one of which was the subject of a BravoFact documentary. Serafin LaRiviere (they / them) has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Massey Hall, Toronto Jazz Festival alongside industry legends.

Serafin’s albums include 2 am At The Torch Café, which topped No. 7 on Canadian university radio jazz charts, with over 3,000 downloads from Internet music sites like iTunes; Nothing Goes Quietly premiered at number 9 on the same charts, reaching number 1 in one week on CHUO radio in Ottawa; and Love’s Worst Crime, featured Serafin’s largest contribution of original material to date, writing seven of the album’s 11 songs.

After a hiatus of almost 10 years, Canadian jazz artist Serafin LaRiviere is back with a brand new album called “Unravel”, an album that crosses several genres. Classic Torch songs like Cry Me a River and I Put a Spell on You get an electronic kiss, while original songs like It’s You and I could’t be Your Girl contain elements of pop, funk, soul and even from country. The track Good Boy is the artist’s most personal – a musical celebration of their son, honoring “all the wonderful and complicated things that make him such a good child.”

Unravel’s debut single is a slow, intimate take on the 1980s Pop classic Take On Me, from the band Ah-ha. Where the original is rhythmic and uplifting, Serafin’s offering includes only voice and piano.

So come on and “Unravel” with Serafin at Don’t Tell Mama for the New York debut.
