West Nashville Cash Express employee robbed at knifepoint | News

NASHVILLE (WSMV) — It was a scary weekend in West Nashville after an employee at a Charlotte Pike cash advance store stood at knifepoint.

Police say the suspect left with cash and the employees’ car and the thief even tried to run over the employee. On Saturday, it happened at Cash Express, and nearby businesses said it all happened in broad daylight. It was a typical day at work for Robbie Bishop.

“We had a very busy Sunday,” Bishop said. “There were a lot of people inside and outside all day.”

Bishop said he looked out the window as he made a sale at McPherson’s Men’s Shop.

“I turned around and looked and saw all the police cars,” Bishop said. “The girl who worked there, her car was missing.”

Bishop saw the moments after an armed robbery at the nearby Cash Express. Metro police said a man seen in surveillance photos entered the Cash Express around 1.15pm, acting as a customer. Police also said he filled out a loan application while he waited for another client to leave.

Metro Nashville police are working to identify the person they believe held a woman at knifepoint, robbed her at work and stole her vehicle Saturday afternoon.

Once the suspect was alone with the employee, police said he went behind the counter. Police said he demanded money by pointing the pocket knife at her.

“People are getting cashed checks or title loans,” Bishop said. “I’m sure there was a pretty good amount of money in there.”

After getting the money, the suspect asked the employee for the keys to her black Cadillac Escalade and demanded that she get in the car with him. Instead, the employee fled and ran to the Cash Express. When the police said so, the suspect tried to run him over with his car.

“It’s pretty scary,” Bishop said. “We haven’t had this kind of incident here for years.”

Police say the suspect fled east on Charlotte Pike and detectives later found the car abandoned on Jefferson Street under I-40. Bishop described the area around her business as busy but safe and is grateful the employee was unharmed.

“Hopefully she’s doing well and getting back to work soon,” Bishop said.

Metro Police is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
